The Goals for a Better Nation

In the process of establishing America as its own country, people have learned how to accept one another while trying to figure out right from wrong. We have improved how we treat each other over the years, but we have yet to figure out the correct formula so that everyone can experience equal opportunities. As depicted in the film, society has lost touch with its peers and the nation is becoming more divided with each passing day. It is crucial that we mend the division being created as history tends to repeat itself if past mistakes are not corrected. America is supposed to represent a melting pot where everyone is free to express themselves without having to feel ashamed or embarrassed. Unfortunately, citizens are held back due to their beliefs or their income, resulting in a loss of expression and hold on to their goals. Whether it is pure greed or hatred, we as a nation are holding back our peers from experiencing their full potential. Support and respect should be shared from every aspect instead of leaving each other in the dust for stating another opinion. No matter where citizens originate from, no matter who they love, no matter what they believe in, everyone deserves kindness from all walks of life. My American Creed represents respect for everyone so that they are able to achieve their full potential.

Achieving the End Goal

Throughout the country, protests arise around every corner. Citizens are fighting for their lives in the “freest nation in the world.” Families migrate to this country in order to attain a better life and escape from the confines of their original home. However, they are turned away at the borders and sent on their way. If they are let through, they are faced with a crowd that encourages them to leave. Meanwhile, individuals who already live in the country are held at gunpoint at a crime scene they were nowhere near. Children are being shot as a result of authorities mistaking a hairbrush as a weapon. Adolescents are being verbally abused by strangers because they identify as gay. Opportunities for success are being missed due to prejudice and lack of respect. Assumptions are made about strangers who are never to be seen again. Individuals without a home are left without security and pass through obstacles that hinder their success. Voices are being pushed off to the side without any regard to what they are saying. These issues need to change and it starts at the source: one individual.

Each person has the power to distribute kindness and respect upon others without naming a price. Citizens have the capacity to stand up for others when people are too weak to use their own voice. As a nation, we should be welcoming and thanking others for bringing their culture into our melting pot and adding to the diversity that the land has to offer. Stereotypes should be put to rest as they add more fuel to the fire. Authorities should receive extensive training in order to better handle the situations that are placed in front of them. Homeless citizens should be given a chance to succeed and earn enough money to sustain themselves so that they can live to see another day. Unfortunately, these actions cannot take place as long as we live in a society that hinders our peers from speaking out for what is right. Everything starts with our personal being and learning how to accept others as they are.

Expectations

History will continue to repeat and rhyme if proper actions do not begin to take place. With every passing day, citizens lose hope for a nation that was built on liberty. Nevertheless, we must press on and continue fighting the neverending battle of hatred and prejudice. I believe that everyone has the capacity to do something great, no matter how small the action may seem. I believe that respect is a concept that every person deserves. Opportunities pass by daily as individuals do not fit perfectly into the criteria presented. I believe that everyone deserves a chance, even if the puzzle piece needs to be shifted in order to fit the bigger picture. We are failing as a nation when we put others down for not representing the ideal society. There is still going to be violence and hatred in this world, but the best step forward we can take is to show a bit of kindness at every chance that we receive.
